Description: The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is a government agency inside the United States Department of Labor. The agency was established to enforce safe and healthful working conditions for working professionals by creating and enforcing standards. Our OSHA Infection Control Compliance course teaches how to comply with scientifically accepted principles and practices of infection control and to monitor compliance with OSHA's and the CDC's recommendations concerning disease transmission in healthcare settings. In this course, offered by our accredited school partners, students will learn to differentiate pathways of disease transmission, to create and maintain a safe environment for patient care, to institute post-exposure evaluation and follow-up, and to list the equipment, supplies, engineering standards, and housekeeping practices required for universal precautions.

The objectives of this course are to demonstrate your ability to:
• differentiate among the pathways of disease transmission
• select and use barriers and/or personal protective equipment for preventing contact with potentially infectious material
• create and maintain a safe environment for patient care
• introduce engineering and work practice controls to reduce patient and worker risks
• examine the advantages and disadvantages of chemical disinfectants
• choose the most appropriate method of heat sterilization for your office
• provide for biological monitoring of sterilization procedures
• determine exposure categories of employees
• list the equipment, supplies, engineering standards, and housekeeping requirements required for universal precautions
• prevent and control infectious and communicable diseases in health workers and their patients
• inform employees about hepatitis B vaccination recommendations
• institute post-exposure evaluation and follow-up
• explain requirements for warning signs, labels and training for all employees
• keep appropriate records
• implement a Hazard Communication Plan
• provide for the general safety of employees on the job
• itemize requirements for employee training
