This introductory course is designed to empower parents and caregivers with the knowledge and tools they need to support their child’s educational journey. Parents will gain a foundational understanding of special education, including where to begin when concerns arise, how the referral and evaluation process works, and what to expect at each step. The course will also provide guidance on Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and 504 Plans, outline parent and student rights under federal and state law, and highlight strategies for effective collaboration with schools. By the end of the course, parents will feel more confident advocating for their child, understanding available supports, and fostering success both in school and at home.
