Hearts & Spades - fun card games

This class offers an exploration of the popular trick-taking card games Hearts and Spades, highlighting their similarities and key differences. Students will learn the rules, scoring systems, and strategies necessary to master both games in a social and engaging environment.

Course content

• Hearts: The Evasion Game: Learn the objective of Hearts, where the goal is to have the lowest score by avoiding specific penalty cards—namely hearts and the Queen of Spades.
• Spades: The Bidding Game: Discover the team-based strategy of Spades, where success depends on accurately bidding the number of tricks you and your partner will take in each round.
• Trick-taking fundamentals: Understand the basic mechanisms of trick-taking, including leading suits, following suit, and the strategic importance of each card played.
• Winning strategies: Analyze and practice different tactical approaches for each game. In Hearts, you'll master how to pass cards and "shoot the moon," while in Spades, you'll learn how to communicate with your partner and handle your bids.
