This expository ASL course provides nonnative signers an opportunity to explore ASL as a second language. Students learn approximately 200 functional sign words, basic grammar and syntax, and how to fingerspell using The Manual Alphabet. Students practice using their signing space and non-manual components including facial expression and body postures to communicate in ASL. Students are also introduced to regional, national, and global sign variations and historical, political, and educational institutions of Deaf Culture. Students are required to purchase the following book. Signing Illustrated: The Complete Learning Guide Revised ed. Edition by Mickey Flodin – ISBN-13: 978-0399530418, ISBN-10: 039953041X (May be purchased at Amazon, or Barnes and Noble – Approx. cost $15)  8 weeks/16 hours
