Short Description: The International Classification of Diseases (ICD), 10th Revision, Clinical Modification (CM) was designed to classify patient morbidity or sickness and mortality or death information to index health records. Accurate coding using the ICD system is vital to successfully reporting and maintaining health records as well as billing for reimbursement for services rendered. ICD coding is also used by governments and medical personnel to gather data and statistics that assist with medical research and disease tracking. In this course, we are going to provide an overview of ICD-10-CM codes and their use when coding. We will explore the current coding and reporting guidelines for ICD-10 coding as well as the specific guidelines for each chapter of the ICD-10-CM coding manual.
