Short Description: Interior design and decorating touches the lives of all of us in a very direct way we all live in interiors, and most of us work, study, shop, and travel inside buildings, vehicles, and other enclosures. At one time or another, almost everyone has been an interior designer or decorator on a limited scale, when choosing a painting color or a rug, when buying furniture, or when arranging furniture in a new living place. For these reasons, interior design and decorating is -- or should be -- of interest to everyone. This course helps you understand the basic principles of interior design and decorating to both improve your life, and set you in a new direction for your career!
This Green Interior Design Specialist course covers everything from theory to current practices. It presents the tools and knowledge needed to implement an environmentally responsible approach for any interior design project. The course opens with a broad perspective on global sustainability followed by a timeline of human and environmental interactions. This sets the stage for the course’s coverage of the day-to-day issues of environmentally responsible interior design, including:
• Indoor air quality
• Environmentally responsible lighting design
• Energy and water issues
• Evaluation and specification of interior finishes and furnishings
As a Green Interior Design Specialist you will examine a variety of essentials design standards and philosophies. The final part of this course includes in-depth case studies that demonstrate how the principles and practices can be successfully put into action.

Instructor Description: Though this program is a self-paced program it is supported by an educational mentor. Educational mentors are subject matter experts who have years of experience in their field as well as the necessary educational training and credentials to work as an expert. The mentor is available to answer any questions a learner may have including questions on course content, course material, certifications, and even industry questions. Mentors also monitor the progress of learners to ensure training retention and program advancement. In eLearning, motivation is a key tool to success. Because of this, mentors provide encouraging comments, feedback, and coaching to motivate learners throughout the duration of the program to support completion and success!

Certification: The Certified Interior Decorating Specialist (CIDS) National Certification exam designation will demonstrate that as an Interior Decorator, designees have made the commitment to their clients to become educated on the most updated skills necessary to focus on the aesthetics of a space, while improving the visual and functional living spaces in design projects.

Certified Interior Decorating Specialist (CIDS) careers involve creatively planning living and business spaces for individuals and businesses. Employers, including interior design firms and clients who hire Interior Decorators, increasingly expect candidates to have some formal education and training. Certified Interior Decorating Specialist (CIDS) are typically hired by small and large firms or work as independent contractors. Each state may have additional licensing requirements, be sure to research your states requirements for employment by visiting your states occupation board.
