Short Description: An obstetrician-gynecologist, or OB-GYN, is a medical physician who specializes in female health. Obstetrics is a branch of medicine that focuses on health before, during, and after pregnancy, whereas gynecology is related to the overall health of the reproductive system.
OB-GYN professionals are experts in female anatomy, physiology, and common disorders associated with the female reproductive system, pregnancy, and the birthing process. Although their primarily role is to administer routine medical services and disease prevention, they also aspire to educate and promote female health among their clients. This is a rewarding career path that allows professionals to accompany and comfort women through some of the most important moments of their lives.
This specialized course in Obstetrics and Gynecology is designed for experienced healthcare professionals seeking to advance in these two branches of medical science. Students will start by exploring the reproductive system, vaginal health, and pregnancy, identifying how to diagnose and prevent diseases related to those particular areas. Then, students will learn how to effectively perform procedural OB-GYN services, such as preventative screenings, pap smears, mammograms, colposcopies, and endometrial and vulvar biopsies. Finally, students will familiarize themselves with the warning signs and symptoms of breast cancer with the goal of being able to diagnose and offer counsel for patients.
Although 90% of OB-GYN professionals are considered generalists, students may also choose to continue a specialization in the fields of reproductive endocrinology, infertility, gynecologic oncology, female pelvic medicine, reproductive surgery, or maternal-fetal medicine.
